THE TAURUS IN THE MEDITERRANEAN - MYTHS AND CULTS

An archaeological exhibition focusing on the significance of the Bull to the ancient peoples of the Mediterranean basin as an object of worship and symbol of culture and athleticism. Works from 39 museums from Greece and around the Mediterranean are on display, illustrating the role of the Bull in Mediterranean art.

MINOAN AND MYCENAEAN FLAVORS
STOCKHOLM, Mediterranean Museum 07/02/03-29/06/03
After Chicago and Birmingham, it is time for this exhibition - which combines archaeology with the natural sciences - to move to Stockholm. On display are the summarised results of a major international research programme into the diet of the Minoans and Mycenaeans.

THE COSTUMES OF THE GREEK NATIONAL THATRE
ATHENS, National Gallery February - March 2003
This is the first time the most important costumes from the collection of the Greek National Theatre are put on public display. The exhibition includes costumes created by major Greek artists for theatrical productions that were to prove landmarks in the history of the Greek theatre.

SEA ROUTES: FROM SIDON TO HUELVA
ATHENS, Museum of Cycladic Art, May - September 2003
Archaeological exhibition focusing on the relations among the peoples of the Mediterranean during the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age (1600-600 BCE). The organizers have attempted to illustrate the spread of products and ideas, as well as the interaction among the peoples of the Mediterranean basin via carefully chosen exhibits contributed by over 40 museums from Greece, Cyprus, Lebanon, Syria, Tunisia, Italy, Spain, Malta, Turkey, and the Vatican.

ALEXANDER THE GREAT
TOKYO, National Museum 04/8/2003-21/12/ 2003, ÊÏÂÅ, Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Modern Art, 18/10/2003-21/12/2003 An archaeological exhibition in Japan focusing on Alexander the Great's Eastern expeditions, the spread of ancient Greek culture and its effect on the major civilisations of the East. Artefacts from leading archaeological museums in 13 countries are on display. The exhibition is just one of a number of events organised to mark the 50th anniversary of Japanese state television and focusing on cultural exchange between East and West.

IN THE LIGHT OF APOLLO
ATHENS, National Gallery 22/12/2003 - 31/3/2004
Exhibition on the influence exerted by the culture of ancient Greece on the art of Renaissance Italy in the 15th and 16th centuries. A wide range of objects are on display including paintings, sketches, etchings, sculptures, medallions and decorated trunks, all of which illustrate the strong links between ancient Greece and the Italian Renaissance.

] ÄInternational modern art exhibition presenting representative works from the late 20th and early 21st century. The works will be created on site by some of the most important artists on the contemporary world art scene especially for the exhibition, and will include installations, objects, photographs, painting, environments, sculpture, and video.

PERIPLES, PHOTOGRAPHIC ITINERARIES INTO CONTEMPORARY GREECE
ATHENS and THESSALONIKI, October - November 2003, On tour in four cities abroad, 2004
Ten photographers, all of them members of the international Magnum Photos Agency, travel through Greece with a mission: to capture views of contemporary Greece (society, cultural heritage, landscape, daily life) on film. Their original work will form the basis of this photographic exhibition, which will travel from Athens to Thessaloniki and then to four cities abroad.
